Oxygen Sensors I and II G39 and G108
|
|
The fuel/air mixture is regulated seperately for right and left cylinder banks. Each
cylinder bank has its own heated oxygen sensor.
In addition, each cylinder bank has its own catalytic converter.
The use of two oxygen sensors allows the MPI control unit to monitor the oxygen content
in each cylinder bank individually.
The advantage of using two catalytic converters is that the exhaust gas flow speed in
the catalytic converter is reduced. This increases the time that exhaust gases spend
in contact with the catalyst.
The MPI control unit regulates the amount of fuel injected per cylinder bank based on the
voltage signals received from the respective oxygen sensors.

Substitute Function
No substitute functions are available for the oxygen sensors.
Self-diagnosis
The ECU recognizes the following faults:
- A short circuit to positive/open circuit
- A short circuit to ground
- A missing signal
- Rich limit exceeded
- Lean limit exceeded
