------------------------------ Replacing the Outside Temperature Display Bulb Move the steering wheel out and down. Put a rag over the steering column, it scratches easily (If you scratch it you will notice it ever time you get in the car).3380 visits since October 15, 2004
There are two screws holding the trim underneath the instrument panel. It comes out and to the left, there is a two inch pin on the right end. There are three screws holding the instrument panel in.
It will be easier to unhook the wires from the panel so you can work on it in the house, etc. I just removed the temperature display module from the panel and left the panel in the car. There are two screws holding the wire on the temp. display module to the panel, and two screws holding the unit itself.
I guess this would also be a good time to change out all the bulbs for 2W (this came to light after I was in there).
Take the module out and remove the electrical tape around the unit. There are two screws to remove which hold the unit together. I had to bend the wires down to work on the piece, be careful. Once you have it apart it is pretty obvious which bulb is out, it is in the middle of the board, soldiered in from the back. I used de-soldiering braid to remove the solder from the back of the board where it held in the bulb. If you get all the soldier up it should fall out. Be careful, it is pretty cramped on the board. The replacement bulb can be bought at Radio Shack. There are pictures of it right above. The one you want is 12V, and it has two un-insulated wires, about two inches long. Obviously you have to cut the wires down to the same length as the burnt out bulb. Soldier the bulb in from the back, just like it was before. Watch that you don't overrun any solider to the nearby wires on the board. At this point plug it in, and see if it works. From here basically you follow the directions in reverse order.
