This is a discusssion of gear oils for the Audi 01E gearbox =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= The 01E transmission should be using GL-4 and the rear diff GL-5. Don't use anything that has molydenum disulfide in it. The owner's manual says: Synthetic transmission oil G50, SAE 75W/90 (Mil-L-2105 or API/ GL 4) where the G50 is the dealer oil. There has been a lot of conversation on the S-Car list over the years about what brand of gear oil to use, one that always is on top of the list is Redline MT-90 or Redline MTL. Here is a Redline web page It says that MT-90 is a thicker 75W90 version of MTL. Another oil frequently mentioned is BG Synchroshift II Audi used to call for something called "gear oil additive" part # G 009 000 01. That's no longer available. A possible alternative is to add a little bit of a product called Militec . Also, make sure that the fill plug is loose before trying to drain the transmission, otherwise, you'll be in a world of hurt if you can't get the fill plug loose after the oil is out. A fill should be 2.65 litres. - Charlie =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=
