STOP THE PRESSES!! New cylinder head money-saving discovery!!!...
I just figured out on the
mill I can bore the old stock valve seats .080" over-size and still
seat/lap the new valves with enough meat left over for 3-4 more valve jobs.
These seats are hard, Hard, HARD!! I didn't find anything wrong with the old
original seats except the inside bore was smaller than the new valves would
like for optimal efficiency and maximum flow. I never even considered
boring/milling them over-size. Worked like a charm!!
But it's a good news/bad news situation; while it saves the cost of new seats
it increases the cost of machine work. Given any new seats would dictate the
olds seats be removed and replaced with the new ones it should still be cheaper
than new seats AND installation.
But it is a good find and I'll take it!!
