Hi-flow Airbox Workshop Part 2 continued; The products involved...

In this pic you can see the products I've opted to use. I chose these beacause I have experience with each of them going back almost 1/4 century. Anyone considering doing this is free to use any product they wish but the workshop is specifically written for these specific products.

The urethane expandable foam on left is made by DAP tho there are other manufacturers and I have no allegiance to DAP beyond it was at the same place I was one day last week so I got it to eliminate another errand. Doesn't seem to be any better or worse than the product I've used previously tho I far prefer the "creamy" colored material in the red can I've used for years but cannot remember who makes it. Available at Ace, True Value, Home Depot Loew's etc and priced just under $10 per can.

The 3M 08101 product is an all-time favorite of mine. Simply the best, strongest, longest-lasting product of its kind. Tho last time I purchased it it came in 6oz tubes instead of 2oz tubes which are all that are available today. One kit of this 2-part flexible urethane sandable filler "may" be enough. But I purchased 2 kits to be safe. This will be used to fill in all the bubbles in the urethane foam. Then it will be sanded and painted. Best sourced at automotive paint suppliers if purchasing locally and MSRP is $22.99 per kit. I paid $29.97 for 2 kits locally. Available online at prices ranging from $12.99-$18.00+ shipping.

The semi-circle of urethane foam in pic is what I trimmed off with a knife today from last nights butt-ugly pic of it all heaped up on the airbox and VS. I can now mask the velocity stack inlet and start to apply the 3M filler to the foam for a sealed, smooth surface finish. The 3M filler/adhesive has the consistency of peanut butt when mixed and glides on easily and smoothly with a "tongue-supressor/popsicle stick" type tool. The reason I love the foam so much is that urethane piece in pic took less than 30 seconds to trim off with a knife. I spent less than 3 minutes sanding after that on all that urethane gloppy mess that was in the last airbox pic. This stuff is a DREAM to work with as far as shaping, sanding and contouring! About as difficult to cut and sand as a Ritz cracker! WONDERFUL stuff this!
