Here's a discussion on the Audi Bose CD-Changer

This is a discussion of the CD Changers that were optional on the Audi UrS4/S6 cars with a Bose Gamma radio / tape deck unit. Two versions of Audi OEM CD changers are compatible with the Gamma radio (in Bose-equipped systems), one is 6-disc, one is 10-disc. Neither version is currently available.

This writeup covers just the optional 10-disc changer.

Now - what you want to know:

The 10-disc CD changer option really includes two parts. First is the CD Changer itself and the second is an adapter box to interface the CD Changer to the Audi-Bose system.

The CD Changer was actually made by Sony, and you can find compatible used Sony units on eBay for $30 or $40. That's if you are just looking for the Sony changer - NOT including the Audi adapter box under the factory CD changer.

The adapter box is mounted under the CD changer in the trunk, and is unavailable new from any source.

All of the UrS4/S6 cars are wired for the CD Changer in the trunk. On the '95 S6 the CD cable and plug is tie-wrapped up high on the right side of the trunk. It is wrapped in foam and fastened above the horizontal fender brace that goes from the lip of the trunk opening over to the fender.

-----------

If your car didn't have a CD Changer and you want to add one, the thing that is really hard to find is the adapter box that fits under the Sony CD changer. It converts the rectangular Audi plug signals to & from the round connector on the CD changer.

A good place to look for the Audi adapter box is from a wrecked V8 Quattro, since most if not all of then came with the CD changer standard, and it's the same unit as the S6. You can offer to buy the CD Changer even if it doesn't work, this gets you the adapter box.

The CD changer itself is a Sony CDX-A30. You can use almost any Sony CDX-Axx where xx is 15, 30, 55, whatever.

Search eBay Car Audio & Electronics > Audio & Video > CD Players

Search on CDX-A* and select both "only in CD Players" and "in titles & descriptions"

If you have a CD Changer, and it won't eject the cartridge

A solution from Igor Kessel -

        the player is hardly kaput.

Remove the whole assy, take apart, carefully look inside and determine which gears are responsible for lifting up the trolley, where the CD sits while being played, gently rotate them with your finger nail (a small flat screwdriver will do fine as well), remove the disk, reassemble, reinstall.

It is easy, really. Just tedious. I did this a few days ago... again... for the third time total. For some reason the player does not like my InGrid bootleg disk w/paper label.
