As I mentioned yesterday, I decided to cut the mounting flange off of one of the exhaust manifolds -- I ended up using a hacksaw and boy, is my arm ever sore! -- then flipped it upside down and for the sake of expediency, duct-taped it back together

As predicted, it fits ... almost. There's still some minor interference with the PS pump bracket but as I plan to mill that part off anyway -- it's part of the bracket that holds the a/c compressor in place and I'm planning to leave it off the car -- this doesn't concern me too greatly.

What does concern me, however, is the that there isn't much room between the inner fenders and the manifold outlets ... as things stand, fitting a pair of turbos in there will be a very tight squeeze but until I actually have a pair of turbos in my hand, I won't know just how tight it is. I suppose I could always trim away the inner fender panels as necessary (I did it on the 4k racecar I built and it doesn't add all that much strength to the chassis) but it seems to me that doing something as drastic as this is but the first step down the path that ends up with a real hack job being done on the car...

Anyway, I'm supposed to pick up the 16v VW exhaust manifold tomorrow.  Perhaps this will prove to be a much better fit and solve the interference problems in one fell swoop?  I doubt that I could be so lucky but here's hoping...
