Porsche 01E Differences

Date: 6/08/02

The Porsche 968 used a 2WD version of the 01E 6 speed

This gives information on some differences from the Audi 01E gearbox. The first major difference, is that the 968 was front engine and rear mount for the transmission. This had the flywheel and clutch in the front and included a torque tube driveshaft through the center of the car.

The rear of the driveshaft is internally splined, and clamps around the end
of the input shaft of the transmission.

Thus, the Porsche 01E has a different mainshaft not well suited for a
clutch disk, and it has no provision for a starter or throwout bearing.
