Checking fuel injector operation

First, you need to see if the fuel injectors are getting fuel. Open the main fuse panel and remove the fuel pump relay, which is in position 10:
Fuel pump relay socket
  • Switch the ignition on.
  • Connect a multimeter to measure voltage between pins 46(+) and 50: you should see 12 volts. If you don't, there is a problem in the activation of the fuel pump.
  • Connect a multimeter to measure voltage between pins 48(+) and 50: you should see 12 volts. If you don't, there is a wiring problem between the fuse panel and the battery.
Assuming no problems here, check the resistance of the individual fuel injectors. Disconnect the harness connector from the fuel injector to be tested, and measure the resistance between the two lower pins:
Fuel injector check
  • If the injector says 'Bosch' on the base, you should get a value of 15-17 ohms.
  • If the injector says 'Siemens' on the base, you should get a value of 13.5-14.5 ohms.
If you get a value that is out of specification, replace the injector.

If the fuel pump relay appears to be OK, and is activated properly, and all of the injectors pass their resistance tests, but there is still a fuel problem, check fuse 13.
